HELLO FRANCE RECOMMENDS YOU VISIT

Hennessy - A visit to the ageing warehouses, a crossing of the river "Charente" aboard a Hennessy boat... One single place where the visitor can enjoy a pleasant and unique moment in the world of Hennessy cognac

Royan – Badly damaged at the end of World War 2 Royan is now thoroughly modern and different in tone to the rest of the towns along this coast. It has a wide selection of shops and restaurants.  Its port harbours many yachts.

Saintes - An ancient town which has an extraordinarily rich architectural heritage.

Cognac - This small town on the Charente river is home to many famous distilleries – Hennessy, Martell and Remy Martin.  Of particular interest to the Irish holidaymaker is the Hennessy visit which includes a boat trip across the river, a tour of the distillery and a tasting of the cognacs which may be purchased at a discounted price.

Île d’Oléron – This is France’s second largest island and is linked to the mainland by a large bridge near Marennes.  It has some fantastic beaches including La Grande Plage.

La Rochelle – This old harbour is now the biggest yachting centre on France’s Atlantic coast.  Its cobbled streets house many superb stores and restaurants suitable for that extra special occasion.

Bordeaux – Best known as a wine producing area, Bordeaux has been a port since pre-roman times and is rich in culture and history with many châteaux, churches and museums.  Fashionable boutiques and trendy cafes line the streets some of which are pedestrianised.

St. Émilion – Also renowned for its wine production this is a charming village dating back to the 8th century.  Today some medieval houses still line the narrow streets and there are elegant châteaux in the area that are well worth visiting.

Palmyre Zoo – This is one of Europe’s premier zoos with over 1600 animals and birds in 2003.  The surroundings are kept as natural as possible.

Luna Park - This is an amusement park located in La Palmyre which opens in the evenings.  A wide selection of games and entertainments are available for children such as bumpers, haunted house experience, rifle range, roundabouts etc.
